Historical prerequisites of formation and development of bodies and institutions execut ing criminal punishments on the territory of Kazan guberniya
The article presents a brief historical review of criminal punishment evolution in pre-Revolutionary Russia, reveals the essence of the tsar prisons system, and formation of penitentiary policy.
Basing on the analysis of a complex of various sources, the author reveals the prerequisites for creating correctional institutions in Kazan gubernia.
